Sadly, but perhaps predictably, due to a climate of fear and repression, but also largely due to uncknown reasons, the liberals or the “Palestine solidarity movement” in the US has failed to endorse the call put out by Palestinian refugees and international supporters coming in solidarity from over 60 countries.

During this moment of unprecedented change, it is a damn shame to see the “solidarity movement” in the US missing the bus, from groups claiming to be in solidarity with Palestinians–especially Palestinian refugges while refusing to support or participate in the international action.

WHY?
“We hear some of the same arguments: that the project is too risky and confrontational. Howver, it is also true that the project was not the brainchild of any 0of these solidarity groups, or even of their Palestinian allies. Instead, it came from groups that represent large numbers of Palestinians – including many from the Palestinian expatriate communities in the border countries, such as the refugee camps, the Islamic movements and the supporters of armed resistance groups. Although the solidarity community has claimed for years that it wants nonviolent resistance to catch on in these communities and the Palestinian mainstream, they apparently were not prepared for it to come unsolicited from that community. As a result, a lot of the reaction has been mistrust and a concern that such groups might “hijack” the Palestinian nonviolent resistance movement. Has the Palestine Movement in the US Missed the Bus?

This may be true and it may not. Whatever the case may be, during this most unprecedented time, while we are building the future from the ground up, if we watch closely we can see that people’s true natures, allegiences and agendas are being exposed. It is both difficult and important to look closely at what is being revealed and why. We must ask ourselves where and with who we stand, and what we want to represent. After all our very future depends on it.

~Solidarity, love and respect to all the organizers, participants and supporters of the #GMJ. May this most important day be the first step in liberating Jerusalem, and freeing us all.
